Selena Gomez dubs Donald Trump ‘childless cat lady’ and slams JD Vance with same joke

Selena Gomez took a swipe at presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance during her speech at the 2024 Emmy Awards, referring to her fellow cast members as “childless cat ladies.”
Following the lead of her close friend Taylor Swift – who recently threw her support behind Kamala Harris in the presidential race – Selena also publicly criticized JD Vance during her on-stage remarks.
Speaking at the prestigious awards ceremony, she humorously referred to her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin as “childless cat ladies,” echoing Vance’s derogatory comment.
This comes as the Republican vice-presidential nominee has been under fire for his remark targeting the Democratic party.
In a 2021 interview with former Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson that has since resurfaced, JD Vance lamented about the country being governed by Democrats, corporate oligarchs, and “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
During their appearance to present the night’s first award, the co-stars playfully roasted each other, with Martin Short joking about Steve Martin’s age: “Let me just say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like he’s fallen and can’t get up.”
Not skipping a beat, Steve quipped: “And let me say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like a former women’s tennis champion.”
Selena Gomez stole the spotlight, adding: “And let me say what an honor it is work with two guys who are this far away from being childless cat ladies.”

Enthusiastic viewers took to social media, with one commenting: “Steve, Martin and Selena host alllll award shows!!!!!”
Others speculated on bigger stages for the group, “Ok so when are Selena, Steve and Martin hosting the Oscars??”
While a third shared their affection: “I love how much Steve Martin and Martin Short clearly adore Selena Gomez.”

Both Martin and Steve have been tapped for the Lead Actor category, and Selena celebrates her first-ever nod for Lead Actress.
